November Raves and Reviews

William Rogers, our November Artist of the Month, was part of the exhibition Blacksmithing with a Southern Accent at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center in Georgia. This show has since traveled to the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis.

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will feature the work of Amy Goldstein-Rice, along with 100 other artists, in their Holidazzle exhibition. This year's show will fill two galleries of the Louisville, KY museum.

Pat Pilchard has two prints in the Shape, Form, Texture show at Associated Artists Gallery, 301 W. 4th St. Winston-Salem, NC. The show runs from October 25 - November 30. This national competition show was juried by Kathryn Markel from NYC.

John Lawrence Skau


ARCHDALE: John Lawrence Skau, 53, of Archdale died Wednesday, October 10, 2007.
A celebration of his life and work will occur at a later date.
John Skau was born December 27, 1953, in Waukegan, Ill. He received as Associate degree from Lake County Community College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University and his Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was a nationally known artist producing one of kind sculptural baskets. His work appears in many public and private collections including Art Quest in Greensboro. He also taught around the country including Ball State University, Arrowmont, Penland, and Theatre Art Gallery in High Point. In addition he was a stay at home dad, cook and bottle washer. He was active in the Archdale Library Friends, Trinity Historical Preservation Society, Greensboro Weavers Guild and Piedmont Craftsmen among many others. For all who knew John, his generosity and kindness made him a model for their own lives. His caring continued beyond people and the arts to the environment. He was dedicated to conservation and lived with great respect for the earth, its inhabitants and natural resources.
He is survived by his wife, Judith West; sons, Drew Skau of Charlotte and Erik Skau of Archdale; brothers, Tom Skau of Round Lake, Ill., Jim Skau of Rockford, Ill.; and sister, Sue Skau and partner, Stevie Conlon of Arlington Heights, Ill.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to an Arts organization of your choice.

Spruce Pine Potters Market

The Spruce Pine Potter Market is October 13 - 14 at the Cross Street Building in Spruce Pine, NC.
