Lucuis Dubose has had a love of birds and making stuff since he was a young boy, and today those passions continue in his etchings of birds. The pleasure I take in doing my work and in sharing it with others, he says. Relates to both content and process, and the intimate relation between the two. The content is readily apparent: whimsical and serious images of birds. The process may not be as apparent to the viewer. The making of an etching starts with either a copper or zinc plate to which he applies wax coating. He then drawn in the wax with a needle, removing wax and exposing into it. For each pring ink is rubbed into the lines and then wiped off the surface of the plate. A sheet of dampened acid-free paper is laid on the plate and they are run through a hand-crancked ringer-type press. When dry, the prints are individually hand water-colored.
